About Us

Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association (PTVA) was established in 1921 to commemorate Lokmanya Tilak by undertaking educational activities. Over the past 102 years, the Institution has grown into a large educational organisation with two Primary schools, two Secondary schools, one English medium and one ICSE school. The Institution also has to its credit three Junior Colleges, three Degree Colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai with Under Graduate, Post Graduate Courses along with Research Centres bestowing Ph.D degrees. The institute also runs an AICTE approved Institute of Management offering Post Graduate Diploma and Degree courses in Management. Nearly 27,000 students benefit from the altruism of the Institution.

 

Parle Commerce College was established in June 1960 under the parasol of PTVA. A handsome donation made by Shri Mahadev Laxman Dahanukar, a philanthropic industrialist resulted in the College being renamed as M.L. Dahanukar College of Commerce in 1962. PTVA's M. L. Dahanukar College of Commerce has completed 64 Glorious Years in the field of education and is accredited with 'B+' Grade by NAAC. It is one of the oldest and highly sought after Commerce Colleges in Suburban Mumbai catering to more than 5,000 students every year.

 

The College offers a wide plethora of courses ranging from a traditional Bachelor and Master of Commerce Degree to the more contemporary Degree courses in the fields of Management, Accounting and Finance, Banking and Insurance, Financial markets, Mass Media, Information Technology as well as Environment Management.

 

The College endeavours to develop all round personality of the students. Keeping this goal in mind along with emphasis in academic achievements due importance is also given to the development of co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

 

The College has been performing excellently in Academics with almost cent percent results at the Higher Secondary education level as well as the Under Graduate and Post Graduate Degree levels. Apart from academic achievements, the College is very successful in sports, cultural and social activities. The College has been consistently acclaimed and won prizes at prestigious Inter collegiate Cultural Event conducted by Mumbai University i.e. Youth Festival, National and International competitions in the areas of music and sports. The Natya Mandal of the College has been regularly winning prizes at various inter collegiate competitions such as INT, Mood Indigo, Lokankika, Mrugjal, Spandan, Sawai, Marathi Vidnyan Parishad etc. The NSS unit of the College is actively involved in inculcating social and moral values in the minds of the young students by conducting activities such as blood donation, marrow donor registry, street plays, traffic management, tree plantation etc.

Our success can be measured by the achievements of our illustrious alumni who have excelled in the diverse capacities in the fields of academics, politics, acting and singing, journalism, social activities and many more. Few prominent names are Suresh Prabhu (Hon. Cabinet Minister, Govt. of India), Vijayalaxmi Iyer (Chairman IRDA), Swanand Kelkar (Executive Director Morgan Stanley), Ashok Panvalkar (Chief Editor Maharashtra Times), Shashank Paranjape (Managing Director, Paranjape Schemes), Jyoti Alavani (Corporator, BMC). Sadhna Sargam, Prathamesh Parab, Pushkar Shrotri, Aniket Vishwasrao, Madhuri Mahajan, Apurva Gajjala, Bharat Balvalli, Nilesh Moharir, Chinmay Mandlekar, Yashoman Apte to name a few in the fields of Marathi and Hindi Film Industry.

 

The College is continuously driving to bridge the gap between the academics, co academics and corporate realities by arranging seminars, workshops, events, industrial visits, provide internships etc. We seek to transform our students into professionals and global citizens.
